Trends in Regulation for PV Distributed Generation

Webinar

Tuesday, February 27, 2024 I 10:00am CEST I 5:00pm CET I Language: Spanish

In this webinar, Gilberto Sanchez will update us on the regulations being worked on by the National Commission for Regulatory Improvement (CONAMER), including the proposal to increase the capacity limit for distributed solar generation projects to 1 MW. Claudia Gonzalez will share her experience and opinion from the perspective of companies that offer solar solutions to the commercial and industrial sector in Mexico.

The recording and the speakers' presentations are available here on our digital content platform The smarter E Digital.

Our Guests

Gilberto Sánchez,
Secretary for PV Regulatory Affairs, ANES

Regulatory advisor in the electricity sector in Mexico with extensive experience in distributed generation. In 2016, he participated in the working groups for the approval of the general administrative provisions for the interconnection of power plants smaller than 0.5 MWp of the Special Energy Transition Programme (PETE) of SENER. He has contributed to various workshops and discussion panels related to regulation, such as those that analyzed the Electricity Industry Law in 2021 and CALIDENA, the programme to assess and improve the value chain in the photovoltaic sector led by the German National Metrology Institute (PTB), among others. It has collaborated with different manufacturers to comply with the technical requirements requested in RES/142/2017. He also has several certifications, including that of strategic and commercial partner in Mexico for the SOLAREDGE brand. His company has installed more than 6 GWp in distributed generation. He runs the online workshop portal Hablando de Energía which promotes knowledge of the Electricity Industry Law and its regulation. He is part of the XXII Board of Directors (2022-2024) in the National Solar Energy Association, currently as head of the Secretariat for Photovoltaic Regulation.

Claudia González,
General Director, Green Kiin

Engineer in sustainable energy systems from the Faculty of Engineering of the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico. Technical specialist for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). President of the Energy Commission of Coparmex Estado de México. Advisor to the Women's Commission of Coparmex Estado de México. Founder of the Mexiquense Energy Association. Municipal Youth Award 2022. Mentor of the Heineken Green Challenge 2022. Founder and CEO of Green Kiin Consultores Sustentables and Founder of Reci-klg Energía Circular. Speaker and entrepreneur.

An inflationary environment with high product and labor costs as well as rising interest rates have made investments into solar projects less attractive at a time when Europe needs to accelerate deployment in order to meet its climate targets. On top of that, policy makers are creating uncertainty among investors by implementing caps on revenues and rushing to modify an established electricity market design. This session will cover:Overview of the solar project financing landscapeBusiness models and solar investment trendsInsurability and risk assessment in PV projects
